Bodyboard Wax

Surf wax and bodyboard wax are hotly debated topic amongst ocean goers. How to use it, when to use it and why to use it. Waxing your bodyboard is an art form and should be applied accordingly. Now, like anything in the deep blue, bodyboards can be slippery and in some instances hard to stay on top of. In assuming the former, the average bodyboader will often cover their board head to toe in surf wax. We might point out this will cause the average bodyboarder (and will certainly cause the intermediate to professional bodyboarder) massive issues in maintaining a functional level of control over the board and positioning on the wave. Bodyboarding is all about weight distribution and requires the rider to move their body up and down the board dependant on manoeuvre, wave and levels of speed. Rubbing surf wax or bodyboard wax through the middle of the board will limit the rider’s movement and glue them to the centre of the board leaving them unable to transfer their weight. Now, we don’t by any means question the functionality of waxing a bodyboard, we do however question the delicate procedure which must be undergone beforehand. Bodyboard wax is by all means a necessity, but apply it where your arms are going, not where your body is going. You’ll see this procedure on professional bodyboards. The rails will have wax, as will the nose bulbs. Anything outside of that is excessive and will cause you more harm than anything, but hey, who are we to tell you how to apply your wax. We just supply it.
